Naturally PreservedPet Eats’ premium pet foods are Naturally preserved with Vitamin E (mixed tocopherols) and Vitamin C. Pet Eats uses NO artificial preservatives, colors or additives. We don’t add anything to the food unless it is nutritious and healthy for your cat or dog. We test our pet food ingredients by routine sample to make sure they are free from chemical preservatives such as BHA, BHT, and ethoxyquin to laboratory standards.
Pet Eats uses only purified chicken fat in its food. It is a very palatable high quality source of fat. It is the highest of all animal sources in Linoleic Fatty Acid. Our fat is pure and clear and originates in USDA plants processing chickens for your dinner table.
Most grocery store brands are up to 3 months old when the consumer finally gets it. Due to this, many chemicals are added to commercial pet foods to improve the taste, stability, characteristics, or appearance of the food. Because commercial manufacturers need to ensure that dry pet foods have a long shelf life to remain edible after shipping and prolonged storage, many use synthetic additives & preservatives. These synthetic additives include:
Emulsifiers: to prevent water and fat from separating. Antioxidants: to prevent fat from turning rancid. Artificial Coloring/Dyes: to make the product more attractive to humans.
The AAFCO (Association of American Feed Control Officials) Official Publication lists 36 preservatives, some having no restrictions on amounts that can be mixed with the food. Chemicals such as Ethoxyquin and BHA (butylated hydroxyanisole) have controversial reputations as to safety. Most experts will tell us they are safe, however, many pet owners would rather avoid chemical preservatives and instead use substances that don't have murky reputations. Currently, pet food consumers have driven the popularity of more "natural" preservatives such as Vitamin E or Vitamin C.
