Premium Whole Grains

Pet Eats buys only herbicide-free, Non-GMO whole grains and grinds them fresh for EACH production run. Our trusted grain suppliers are located in the midwest United States, and have been supplying us for decades. We NEVER use wheat, soy, or glutens in our foods.

Oatmeal

Oatmeal is a nutritious and palatable gluten-free grain with significant levels of thiamine & vitamin E. This new star of the health food industry is also an excellent source of quality fiber. The veterinary dermatology group recommends using oatmeal on dogs with skin allergies, both as a shampoo and in the diet. Our human grade oatmeal is non-GMO, has not been irradiated, and contains no processing, chemical, nutritional or medicinal additives.

Rice

Pet Eats uses only whole, ground brown and white rice. Rice is an excellent source of minerals, B vitamins, and complex carbohydrates providing the best digestibility and maximum nutrient absorption needed to meet daily energy requirements.

Brown Rice
This is rice with the hull removed but still retaining the bran layer. Hulls have no nutritional value. Some pet food brands use hulls as a poor grade of fiber/filler but most hulls are burned as fuel in power plants.

White Rice
This is brown rice with the bran layer removed. We blend whole brown rice for its overall nutrition value and white rice for its high digestibility and protein levels and reduced fiber. White rice is much more nutritious than most cereal grains and more digestible than brown rice.

Brewers Rice
The small fragments of white rice kernels that have been separated from the larger kernels of milled rice. This is a very high quality source of carbohydrates and natural fiber.

NO Ingredient Splitting!
Splitting is a common practice on pet food labels. Ingredients in pet food are listed in order of their weight- so the heaviest ingredients, those that make up the largest portion of the food, are listed first. Splitting is when a manufacturer lists different components of the same ingredient as separate items.
For example… rice, rice bran, rice gluten meal, and rice flour are all parts of the same ingredient-RICE. The reason for the practice of “splitting” is essentially to make the ingredient list look better. When there are large quantities of grain in the food, a manufacturer might choose to list the component parts separately. That way, although the total split ingredient may make up 55% of the food and meat makes up only 25%, it is possible to list the meat product first and then three or four individual rice products that each separately weigh less than the meat product. Combined, however, rice makes up more than double the meat content.
What To Avoid

Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO)
Genetically engineered (GE) means that the genes and DNA have been altered in that food item. Altering the genetic make-up of foods is creating Frankenstein foods. The effects of these changes have not been fully tested on our environment nor on pet health and what little information exists is dismal.

High-quality food should NOT contain carbohydrate food fragments.
Fragments are lower-cost by-products of another food manufacturing process. Fragment ingredients include wheat bran, wheat flour, rice flour, and wheat middling. These pre-processed ingredients have had much of their nutritional value leeched from them.

Wheat Middlings/Millings :
Consists of coarse and fine particles of wheat bran, wheat shorts are the fine particles of bran, germ flour, or the waste from the tail of the mill from commercial flour milling. Commonly referred to as “floor sweepings,” this ingredient is an inexpensive “filler” and should not be found in premium pet foods.
